Preparing 3D models for Ortelia Curator
This article outlines the general properties required for a 3D model to successfully import it into Ortelia Curator.
The following video example uses the Autodesk Maya modelling environment. Names of functions and tools will vary across 3d modelling packages.
A Word About Polygon Count
- – The number of polygons in a 3D model will have a direct impact on the size of your save files and can impact performance.
- – Ortelia Curator embeds all artworks into the save file for security reasons.
- – This means your file size will go up as you add more content!
- – As a general rule you should always aim to have the smallest number of polygons as possible whilst relying on textures and polygon smoothing to give you the output you require.
The example below shows the same model with the same textures. The model on the left is the original high polygon count 3D object (149,999 faces). The model on the right is the same model with reduced polygons (37,500). Both models have the same texture and same amount of face normal smoothing.
Export Formats
Ortelia Curator can import a variety of 3D exchange formats. We recommend the following formats in order of recommendation.

- – OBJ – Wavefront
- – 3DS – Autodesk
